Alaska's Best Guides
Captain Bryan Bodine
It's my distinct pleasure
to
introduce you to one of Alaska's best fishing guides, Captain Bryan Bodine.
The following Q&A format will reveal much about Bryan's approach
to providing Tanaku's guests with a world-class Alaska sport fishing
adventure. Steven Moore, CMA of AQMG will be asking each guide a few
questions.
Steven Moore
Bryan, how many seasons have you guided in Alaska?
Bryan Bodine
My experience of fishing includes six seasons guiding in Southeast Alaska.
I have over thirty years of sport fishing experience.
Steven Moore
I have heard you
have quite an interesting and varied sport fishing history. Tell
me a little about it.
Bryan Bodine
I enjoy sport fishing a wide variety of fish occupying different environments.
Since I live in Hawaii, I have the opportunity to target Marlin, Tuna,
Mahi Mahi and Wahoo. In those exotic waters I have landed a 622 lb
Blue Marlin, a 62 lb Mahi Mahi, a 561 pound Wahoo, and a 225 lb Yellow-fin. In
Alaska, where I prefer to sport fish; I have guided for trophy halibut
in the two hundred pound plus class, forty-eight pound King Salmon
and Coho salmon in the twenty-pound class.
Steven Moore
That's quite a bowl of fish!
Yes, lots of variety when it comes to sport fishing and guiding. What would
you say your real passion is, in terms of sport fishing?
Bryan Bodine
My passion continues to be sport fishing and guiding in the fertile waters
of Southeast Alaska. The region has an unbeatable mixture of abundant
wildlife, magnificent scenery and a rich aquatic ecosystem full of
game fish. What's not to like about fishing in ALASKA!
Steven Moore
You're quite a fit-looking guy. What other outdoor activities
do you engage in?
Bryan Bodine
My hobbies include: surfing, snowboarding, skin/scuba diving,
as well as, ice and inline hockey. And of course - sport fishing!
Steven Moore
Tanaku seems like a very professional operation. What do you like about
working with them?
Bryan Bodine
Tanaku Lodge is a very professional operation! It's a great place to
work. They provide me the opportunity to guide clients and friends in
pursuit of some of the world's greatest fishing action. It's a unique
fishery with a broad range of fishing venues. I can fish the Gulf of
Alaska, or the Inside Passage water, depending on weather and current
trends in fishing.
Steven Moore
Apparently, you have a eco-tourism background, as well. Tell
me a little about that.
Bryan Bodine
I studied Aquatic Biology at U.C.S.B. These studies have proven useful
in aquatic ecosystem interpretation. I do whale watching tours and volunteer
work with the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary.
Some of the duties I have are: slide show presentations on humpback whales
and coral reef ecosystems. I also do coral reef eco-tours including skin
or scuba diving around the island of Kauai.
Thanks for taking time for the interview
Bryan! It was a real pleasure meeting you and good luck on this coming
season. Catch THE BIG ONE FOR ME!
